I'm not a descendant of Jewell Vann, but here is the information from her obituary published in the Cleveland Advocate. It might help you find a descendant:
JEWEL VANN CARNES
Jewel Vann Carnes who was born January 30, 1904 and died July 4, 2003 at the age of 99 years, 5 month and 4 days.
Jewel is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Marlon Merritt Carnes, and her parents, Thomas Franklin Vann and Sarah Lilley Vann. She is survived by her four children; sons Horace Merritt Carnes and wife, Wilma, Marlon Norris Carnes and wife Mary, Larry Truett Carnes and wife Ann, and daughter Linda Carnes Moran and husband Howard. Jewel is survived by 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Jewel was born in San Jacinto County, Tex., in the community of Liberty Hill.
Jewel lived a long, full, life. She loved and served her Lord in innnumerable ways during her time on her earth. Jewel also loved the church, having served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She and Marlon were charter memebers of the First Baptist Church in Porter, Tex., and were members of Hibbard Memorial Baptist Church in Houston for 28 years. She also has served and worshipped at Park Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Mims Baptist Church in Conroe, Calvary Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, and, most recently, at Elkins Lake Baptist Church in Huntsville.
In 1919, as a 15 year old high school student, Jewel received a lifetime teaching certificate after having passed the Texas State Teachers' test. Her first teaching position was in the little community of Tarkington Prairie. After completing high school, Jewel went to college at Sam Houston Normal Institute in Huntsville, Texas. Jewel retired from teaching in 1969.
Funeral services were held July 8, 2003 at Elkins Lake Baptist Church in Huntsville, Tex. Interment follwed at the Hayman Cemetery in Coldspring, Tex., where Jewel will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Marlon.
