I am interested in this family because two of the Caldwell boys married into my Ray line. They are my Great Grand Uncle-In-Laws.
John R. Caldwell b. 1803 Sc and d. Nov 1860 San Augustine, Texas; married to Eliza Ann McCord in South Carolina...possibly Abbeville County, SC. They were married prior to 1832. In 1832 they had a daughter Mary Jane.
They moved to Kentucky where son Joseph Thaddeus Caldwell b. 13 Dec 1833 KY was born. They were not there long before they moved to Dallas County, Alabama. John and Eliza would precede to have daughter Missouri Adelia Caldwell b. 1839 AL, Viola C. Caldwell b. 1840 AL, Charles Hal Caldwell b. 27 Oct 1841 AL, Eliza Virginia Caldwell b. 1844 AL, Florence Louisa Caldwell b. 9 Oct 1846 AL and John R. Caldwell b. 17 Oct 1848 AL.
Eventually John R. Caldwell would pack up wife and children and move to Lafayette County, MS by 1850. Again after a few years a move was made to San Augustine County, Texas. In Nov 1860 John R. Caldwell died from Congestion. Eliza was left to care for the children.
Mary Jane Caldwell married Dr. T.J. Sims 24 Sept 1854 in San Augustine, Texas.
Joseph Thaddeus Caldwell married Eliza Ann Ray ( my Great Grand Aunt ) 20 Jul 1869 in San Augustine, Texas.
Missouri Adelia Caldwell married Benjamin Franklin Sims 7 Nov 1872 in San Augustine, Texas.
Charles Hal Caldwell married Martha Beatrice Ray Garrett ( my Great Grand Aunt ) on 3 Dec 1897 in San Augustine, Texas.
Florence Louisa Caldwell married Abner W. Doggett.
Dr. John R. Caldwell married Martha Ann Crawford.
The only two daughters that I do not know who they married are Viola C. Caldwell and Eliza Virginia Caldwell.
Viola lived with her sister Florence Doggett in 1880 in Shelby County, Texas. Viola was 35 years old and single.
Eliza Virginia is a mystery. Not sure if she died young, married young or where she went. After finding her living at home with mother Eliza and her other siblings, there wasn't anymore sightings of her.
I do have a little bit more information on J.T. Caldwell and wife Eliza Ann Ray. I also have a little bit on Charles Hal Caldwell and Martha Beatrice Ray Garrett.
If you know this family, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I really would like to know what happened to Viola and her sister Eliza Virginia.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
