Col. Almanzon and Elizabeth 'Newton' Huston - 1800s

Col. Almanzon and Elizabeth 'Newton' Huston/Houston lived at San Augustine, Texas from about 1830 to 1861, when Almanzon passed away. Later Elizabeth married Ira Austin. Almanzon served in the military with Gen. Sam Houston. However, even though they referred to each other as 'cousin,' through DNA testing, we find that they were not actualy blood related.

When Almanzon died, he was coming home from government business in Washington. He came by a daugter's place in Louisiana, where he became ill and died. In doing my Huston/Houston research, I have been unable to find Col. Almanzon's final resting place. He was my great-great-gtandfather and I am doing research on the family.

I have decided that it may be possible that some doctor's old medical records may tell me something. Does anyone in or around San Augustine know about doctors who practiced in the area back in the mid 1800s? Maybe a library would have the information. I am unable to travel. I am a great-grandmother and unable to do any long distance travel.

If you know anything about the family, or a library where I might locate my information, please contact me, Marge at: margeisrael

I thank you very much.
