A collection of family histories, primary those in East Tennessee, which Penelope Johnson Allen compiled and wrote for the Chattanooga Times Sunday Magazine from December 3, 1933 to March 21, 1937.

James, the oldest son of John whose descendants located in Bradley county. James was born in Washington county, Tennessee. He married his cousin, Rosamond Irwin, Feb. 18, 1810, in Jefferson county. She was born Aug. 25, 1792, near Jonesboro, in Washington County, and was reared on Little river in Blount county, Tennessee. Rosamond Irwin was an only daughter but she had two brothers, Jesse Irwin, who lived in Indiana and served two terms in the legislature of that state, and a half-brother, Dr. Joseph Irwin, of Texas.
