Guinn in Rusk and Panola counties

I'm looking for the first name of the father of Julia Frances Guinn and Mary Cumile Guinn. He was the first husband of Ellen Elizabeth Morris, daughter of John Morris and Frances Reed.

These sisters both married W. T. (Bud) Vaughn in Rusk County, Texas (M. Cumile after Julia died, of course).

Julia first married a "Feemster," and M. Cumile first married Hyram W. Holleman.

On the 1870 Panola county census, I found this listing:
J. H. Ash W M 31 Tennessee
Elizabeth W F 27 Texas
Julia W F 11 Texas
Mary W F 9 Texas
James W M 1 Texas

I have previously had the wife of James Henderson Ash, Sr. listed as "Elizabeth Gunn" because the Panola County marriage records list it that way. I recently ran across information (which was under my nose all along) that made it crystal clear. The 1860 Rusk County census transcription (by a descendant of James Henderson Ash's brother, William) notes that James Henderson Ash married Ellen Elizabeth Morris on March 03, 1863. That is the same date that James Henderson Ash married "Elizabeth Gunn." "Gunn" is obviously a misspelling, typo or transcription error, and should be "Guinn.".

If James Henderson Ash married Ellen Elizabeth Morris March 03, 1863, then Julia and Mary, born 1859 and 1861, cannot be the children of James Henderson Ash. I checked, and sure enough, Julia Frances Guinn was born in 1859, and Mary Cumile Guinn was born in 1861. They are obviously the children of "Elizabeth Gunn."

So far I haven't been able to positively ID the Guinn that was the first husband of Ellen Elizabeth Morris. None of the Tennessee/Alabama Guinns match up so far, and I haven't finished looking through the census records.

Does anyone out there have a clue?

Tom Vaughn
