Cherokee Freedmen:Rowe and Mayfield

I'm researching Cherokee Freedman. My gggrandmother, Sallie MAYFIELD, lived with Jesse ROWE and his wife Amelia (Permelia) in River Township, Mayes County, Oklahoma in 1910. My gggrandmother was a slave of Jesse and Sarah Walker Starr MAYFIELD. Sarah was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. Her brother, George STARR, owned Jesse ROWE. Jesse and Sallie were born in Indian Territory and were taken to Rusk County, Texas about 1848 by their respective owners. After Emancipation both Sallie and Jesse returned to Indian Territory, Cherokee Nation, and made application for enrollment as Cherokee Freedman before the Dawes Commission. Both were rejected. Jesse on Cherokee Freedman application #R-362 and Sallie on #R-407. Children of Sallie and Miles MAYFIELD: Thomas, Emberry (also in Mayes County-1910), and Roland. Children of Jesse and Amelia: Colis, Jesse, Jr., Salona (Salina), Nancy, and Joseph.

Jesse was a Baptist preacher and died probably after 1920. Sallie probably died after 1910.

Sallie's exact death date and burial place is my primary interest.

Preston
