Joyce,
William Howerton Came to Rusk Co., Tx as an overseer for The Devereaux Plantation near Glenfawn, in Rusk Co., Texas. He married a sister to my GGreatgrandmother Nancy Laura Mickelborough Gresham. I have her name somewhere in my files but can't find it right now. A.S. Mickelborough, her brother, came with them to Texas and my gggrandmother Nancy Laura widow of Sterling Gresham came from Lounds Co., Ala to be with them. I read in a history of Rusk County, by Dorman Winfrey, That when the War with Mexico began, the plantation Overseer went off to join the U.S. Army. Julian Devereaux sent to Ala for William Howerton to take his place. I would guess A.S. Mickelborough came with him because he was living in their household in the 1860 census of Rusk Co., Texas.

Troy Gresham
