Trying to trace any information on my great grandparents. SARA ADELINE BRYANT WINFREY, b 1848-1852 in GA, d 1892 in TX. Could also be spelled BRIANT. WILLIAM LEWIS ("LEM")WINFREY b Aug 1852 in GA, d unk date in Rusk Co TX. I especially need any information to link Sarah to a GA family of her origin. The WINFREYs migrated to Rusk Co in 1880 and began a large family with many descendants still living in the Henderson/Mt. Enterprise area today.

Listed on the 1870 Clayton Co, GA (Jonesboro)county census, she resided in the household of NANCY CATHERINE CONINE as a family helper, at age 22.

She married my great-grandfather WILLIAM LEWIS (LEM) WINFREY on May 16, 1877. They are listed on the 1880 Clay Co, GA census along with their two-month old son, OSCAR LEWIS. Her age here is listed as 29.

She would have a birth date between 1848-1851 and census records her birth and that of her parents as in Georgia. I have absolutely no other background information on her. BRYANT may be a maiden name or possibly a former married name.

In 1883, the WINFREY's migrated to Rusk County, TX, Minden, where they homesteaded and farmed. Other children born were ZORA (b.1884, m. RILEY PADGETT), ROSS (b 1887), SARAH MERTIE (b 1889, my grandmother) and THADDEUS (b 1892). She died in 1892 in Rusk Co., TX, apparently after her son THAD was born in Dec, 1892.

After her death, LEM married Alice Fleming (abt 1895) and together they had several other children together: PEARL, LUKE, EMMETT, INCE and ROY.

I am looking for any information on SARAH and LEM and hoping for contact with families members of some of these same names.
Email to and many thanks.
