Bob,
I don't have a picture of the Hearne water tower for you, but we had a game similar to your family's. When we drove from Calvert to Waco, we all tried to see who could see the Amicable Building first. Last one to see it had to treat everyone in the car for a drink or snack when we got to Waco.
I guess this one was to keep everyone quiet. When we approaced an underpass, everyone but the driver had to put one hand on the ceiling of the car and there was no talking. Under the bridge, the driver would honk the horn. That signaled the time for everyone to make a wish. The last one with their hand up and quiet was supposed to get their wish.
I didn't know anyone else played those traveling games!
