"John DEATON was the son of Joseph DEATON and his wife, Elizabeth JORDAN. John was probably born in Montgomery County, North Carolina around 1794. He migrated from Montgomery County to McNairy County, Tennessee in the late 1820's or early 1830's, then headed south through Mississippi to Hopkins County, Texas. John obtained a Texas Land Grant in Hopkins County, Texas shortly after Catherine died. After Catharine died around 1844, John married Mrs. Sarah REILLY, the widow of James REILLY."
