John W. Spencer founded the American settlement of Presidio, across from Ojinaga, and was prominent in the development of the silver mines at present Shafter. My gggrandfather was John W. Spencer b. 1818 d. 1898. He was married to Jesusita Baeza (last name has not been confirmed) and 2nd wife was Felicitas Molinar (last name has not been confirmed. John W. Spencer had the following children: Alcario b. 1852 married ? Carlos b. 1855 married Josephina Solome b. 1859 married Fermin Flotte Presiliano b. 1861 married Cleofas Lerma Ricardo b. 1863 married Francisca Rodriquez Carolina b. 4/28/1868 Guillermo b. 3/12/1889 married Maria Garcia Mary Helen b. 1856 died 1858 Indio, Texas (Presidio County). Indio is on Spencer Creek, the Rio Grande and Farm Road 170, twelve miles west of Presidio in southern Presidio County. The settlment, called at different times Paloma Ranch, Spencer's Rancho, and Indio Ranch began after 1854 when John W. Spencer settled there and began raising horses, and later cattle and vegetables. I am searching for my relatives from Presidio Texas and related areas. Also relatives from Ojinaga Mexico and Del Rio Texas which I know that are many.
