Whitton/Whitten and Carter Family Polk Co, TX 1920
Posted by: Dan Franklin (ID *****2708) Date: December 21, 2003 at 07:04:12

Trying to figure out exactly how these families connect that are in the 1920 census of Polk Co, TX ED 128, SHT 167.
117-117 Carter, Fred Head 25 TX AR
Annie C. Wife 23 TX TX
Agness Dau 6 TX TX TX
Minnie Dau 4 TX TX TX
Curtis W. Son 9/12 TX TX TX
Whitton, May ˝ Sis 17 TX TX TX
Hearren, Jewell ˝ Sis 14 TX TX TX
118-118 Whitton, Jim Head 20 TX TX TX
Rosie Wife 23 TX TX TX
Carter, Nancy C. Mother 43 TX TX
Carter, Boded (?) ˝ Bro 4 TX TX

About 1927 Jim WHITTON married Willie Mae HEARREN (daughter of William Green HEARNE and Margaret Ross HARRIS)b.28 Oct 1906; d.16 Nov 1970, Polk Co, TX. HEARREN is also spelled HEARRON, HEARNE and HEARN. WHITTON is spelled with an “O” and an “E”.

How is Jewell HEARREN related to Willie Mae HEARREN? Willie Mae and her family are located in the 1910 census of Polk Co, TX; but I have not found Jewell HEARREN or the CARTER family.

Willie Mae HEARREN was my wife’s grandmother.

Here is my speculation from the census data:
Nancy C. _____ b. abt 1877; m.(1) _____ WHITTON. They had:
       Jim WHITTON b.abt 1900
May WHITTON b.abt 1903
Nancy C. m.(2) _____ CARTER. They had:
Boded (?) CARTER b. abt 1916.

______ CARTER and his first wife had:
       Fred CARTER b.abt 1895

Now about Jewell HEARREN b. abt 1906. It’s possible Nancy could have married ______ HEARREN before marrying ______ CARTER. If so then she technically woulnd not have been Fred CARTER’s half sister. It’s also possible that ______ CARTER may have married another person not listed about that had been married to a HEARREN.

Appreciate anyone that can share light on this.
