The info I have says that Mr. Hutto came to the Shady Grove area of Polk Co. and opened a store. The Oates family also lived in that area. M.E. Oates married a Stokes who fought and died in the CSA. After that, M.E. married Mr. Hutto. The Oates family started a cemetary on their land when they first came to TX as one of their slaves died enroute. The story is that Mr. Oates thought of his slaves as family and refused to bury her on the road. The Oates Cemetary is now fairly large with Barringtons, 7 generations of Oates, Whites, etc. neighbors, and families of people that the Oates married. I will go back and look at my source to see if it gives any more details about the Mr. Hutto who owned the store. Janet
