Do you have any info, re the Thomas Williams family who was in Polk Co, by about 1842-1843? Enumerated on 1850 census as Thomas, 55, b SC; Lucinda, 37, b MS; and, the rest all born TX: Susan, 17; Mary, 15; Martha, 13; John, 11; Andrew, 8; George, 6; Elizabeth, 4; Thomas, 4.
I'm descended from an Elizabeth Williams of Polk Co, supposedly born 14 Aug 1847, but who always fudged on her age to census-takers. Family tradition says that Elizabeth was living with her sister, Susan, at the time of Elizabeth's 1867 marriage in Polk Co to John Wesley Vinson. (John ended up with land out of the Thomas Williams land grant.) I have assumed Elizabeth--who claimed to be born in MS--was the d/o John Williams of Smith Co MS. Would like to be proven right or wrong. Can you help?
