Tom, I can't tell you what happened to the title to the land, but I grew up around Grandfalls (lived in Imperial which is 10 miles north) but I can tell you a little about the land itself.

Royalty grew to a pretty decent sized town, 2 movie theaters, several honkytonks, and was a typical oil boom town. It is now deserted with a few old buildings remaining. All the land sprouted oil wells like mad, and I think some of them are still pumping.

When I was in high school in Imperial, we used to go Royalty to the movies, and when we came out we always checked the street in both directions to see if a fight was going on. Grandfalls was an old farm/ranch town and was more stable, but it is about deserted also now.

My dad grew up in Grandfalls in the early 20s and I remember of him talking about a Ducky Clements. Don't know if that was your ancestor or not. If so, he moved to Pecos, in Reeves county and may still have descendants there.

Good Luck, Jack
