I only found one of their children, and his DC doesn't show mother's maiden name, either. Maybe you can track down descendants of the following, someone might know her maiden name.

TX Dth Idx thru 1976:

name: John Wesley Ables
death date: 13 Aug 1969
death place: Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas
gender: Male
race: White
death age: 72 years
estimated birth date:
birth date: 03 Nov 1896
birthplace: Texas
marital status: Single
spouse's name:
father's name: John Ables
father's birthplace:
mother's name: Sefrona
mother's birthplace:
occupation: Contractor
place of residence: Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas
cemetery: Rose Hill Cemetery
burial place: Fort Worth, Texas
burial date: 15 Aug 1969
additional relatives:
film number: 2218108
digital film number: 4030538
image number: 2716
reference number: cn 59867

Using the SS number from his DC, I found him listed on the SSDI as:

Wes Ables, b 3 Nov 1895; d Aug 1969, last residence Fort Worth, Tarrant Co, TX; number issued in Colorado.

He filled out his applicaion for that SS card and names of his parents, residence at the time of application etc are on that application. Hopefully at that time he remembered his mother's maiden name. I would obtain a copy of that application.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
