My grandfather, Joseph Anderson Wallace, went to work in the coal mines in Thurber. Or, at least I assumed he meant Thurber because I didn'r realize there were mines at Rock Creek.

He went down ONE day and when he got back up he told his cousin he could have his day's pay as he was NEVER going underground again. He worked at the brickyard in Bennett.
