Yes there were coal mines, near the Palo Pinto border, but on Rock Creek in Parker County. From early 1900s to 1920s, they were closed when the big mines opened in Thurber. Buildings, homes, and equipment were loaded on railroad cars and moved to Thurber. Most of the tailings and slag cannot be seen today, but it was considered very good coal. Evlyn Broumley
