F. M. Parrish's Confederate Widow's Pension, 10/1899

Fredonia Brown Par(r)ish filed the following:

Confederate Pension Application #03331. (Texas State Archives): Mrs. F.. M. Parrish of Parker County, Post Office Weatherford, Texas, dated Oct. 5, 1899.

Widow of T. O. D. Parrish, 74; lived 32 years in Weatherford, Texas.

Occupation: "I am in charity."

Physical condition: Very feeble. "I am almost blind, suffer from severe cough, __________ and helpless.

T.O. D. Parrish died on May 17, 1890, Parker Co., Texas.

He enlised and served with "Capt. Jim Jackson's Co., Kitchen's Regt., of Missouri. McCannesey, Jeff Thompson's ?" Witnesses who swear that they know F. M. Parrish is the widow of T.O. D. Parrish and is his relic were J. D. and F. M. Chatwell.

Approval for the pension was granted by the Parker County Commissioners Court on Aug. 18, 1899.

According to the pension, Fredonia married T(homas) O.D. Parrish on June 19, 1844, in Sumner Co., Tenn. N.B. Harrison was the bondsman for the marriage. Census documentation shows that the family wandered from Tennessee to Illinois by1850, Missouri by 1860, Arkansas sometime between 1860 and 1870, and Weatherford, Parker Co., Texas, by 1868.

T.O.D. and Fredonia had the following children (from the 1870 and 1880 census): James L., Lewis F., Marcus D., Mary E., John B., and Johanna.

A "J and Matilda G. Parrish" also appear on the 1880 Parker Co., Texas, census--are Joel and Thomas related? Both were in Sumner Co., Tenn., and both end up in the same area of Texas.

Also, the Sumner Co. 1830 census suggests that there are only two possible Parrish families with a son the age of T.O.D.: David W. and Thomas. Since others say David W. only had one son, there's either another David W. or T.O.D. and, perhaps, Joel may be sons of this elder Thomas Parrish.

Sandy
