Hello, all,

After following a rabbit trail based on some old family research, I've found the true trail of my Roberts family in Parker Co, TX. A deceased great-aunt's research indicated that my ancestor Martha Mirami Roberts (b March 09, 1856, married Bet. 1872 - 1873 to Joshua Newton "Bud" Taylor, died February 19, 1884 in Parker Co TX) was a daughter of Henry Marion Roberts and Mary Catherine Pate. Well, THAT dog won't hunt, I finally realized, when it occurred to me that it was rather doubtful that Mary Catherine Pate Roberts (born, I believe, November 30, 1859) would have born a daughter in 1856!!! <wry grin>

ANYWAY, after digging back through the 1870 census, I found my Martha Mirami - she was a SISTER of Henry Marion Roberts, and NOT his daughter as my great-aunt had surmised. (DARN! That means I lose out on the line I had back to Henry III and Malcolm the 3rd of Scotland through Mary Catherine Pate's line! Oh welll...) My Martha Mirami is the 14-year-old Martha M in the home of Henry J and Elizabeth Roberts in 1870 in Parker Co TX, Precinct 5, pg 416: H Roberts 51, farmer, 1000 (Ala), Elizabeth 44 SC, HM 16 Tx, Martha M 14 TX, Mary E 11 TX, J E-or-C 9, Susan 6, Arizondr 3

I've seen bits and pieces of information on Henry J Roberts from several years ago in the forum archives, but I'd really like to hear from someone who is working this Roberts family.

Here's what I see so far. On page 396 of the 1870 Parker co Census, I find Asa Roberts 40 (son of Aaron???) with wife Sarah 32, Wm 13, EmmaSam?? 9, Edwin 7, Minervie?? 5, Nancy 3, and Elivira 2/12. Within a few houses, between Asa Roberts and the Elkin and Martha Cody household, is Henry Roberts 23, wife Malinda H? 22, and daughter Lucinda C? 8/12. How does Asa fit in with Henry J above? And I'm going to presume that the 23-year-old Henry now married to Malinda is the son of John W and Lucinda Roberts from the 1850 Milam Co census as described below, in the same household as the John Robert born in Maryland?

Moving back to the 1850 census, in Milam Co Texas, Milam and Williamson districts, pg 19, whom do I find but my Henry J Roberts again, with a houseful of daughters(Henry 32 TN, Elizabeth 24 SC, Rachel P 8 Ark, Elizabeth 7 Ark, Harriet S 4 TX, and Nancy J 2 TX.) Right next door to Henry J is one James T Roberts 25 b KY, wife Malissa 24 b MO, Sarah E 5 Ark, and John S 3 born TX. A brother???

On the page immediately previous to the one whereon I find my Henry J, we hit the genealogical jackpot with a whole potload of Roberts family groups: those of Asa age 55, George age 27, and John age 35, as follows:

Household 459: Aaron Roberts 55 b TN, Sally 44 NC, Benjamin 22 TN, Asa P 20 MO, Amanda 18 MO, William 14 Ark, Matilda 12 Ark, Richard 10 Ark, Edwin 8 TX, Aaron 4 TX.

Household 461: George C Robert 27 b KY, Sarah A 18 b NC

Household 462: John W Roberts 35 b Alabama, Lucinda 28 KY, Aaron J 14 born Ark, Sally A 12 Ark, John 10 Ark, Mary J 8 TX, Martha C 6 TX, Wesley N 3 TX, Henry J 2 or 3?? TX, John Roberts 77 born Maryland, and Sally Roberts 55 born KY (wife of John???).

Household 463 and 465 are where we find James T and Henry J, respectively, and mentioned previously.

Can anyone give me some direction as to who belongs to whom in these families?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards from OK - Keri Cathey
