Lookup Texas Death Certificate for Nancy Jean LATHAM (17 Oct 1859 - 29 Nov 1941). She was born in Carthage and died in Denton. Her parents were Jack THOMAS and Lucy WILKERSON per the informant M. E. STANFIELD. She was also the oldest sister of James THOMAS, father of my granny, Nannie Lucille THOMAS (EVANS). See 1870 Panola-Beat 5-Images 25 and 26. The images have W. J. [William Jackson] THOMAS(52), Lucy(26), Nancy(9), Lena(8), Elijah(7), Alice(4), Matthew(4), and James(2). "Something tragic possibly happened to the family of William J. THOMAS." This conclusion is based on separation of the young brothers in 1880. Seventeen-year old Elijah THOMAS was living with the family of William L. NEAL. Fourteen-year old Matthew THOMAS was living with Nancy WILKERSON(sp). Eleven-year old James THOMAS was living with uncle James H., aunt Caroline, and cousin James APPLEGATE.
Also in 1880 Panola-Precinct 8-District 67-Image 12-Household 114, Amaziah H. LATHAM(21), Nancy(20), and sister-in-law Alice B. THOMAS(13) (My great grand fathers' sister. So, that's five of six children that were on the 1870 census with W. J. Thomas as head-of-household. Who was Amaziah H. Latham? Unsure! His death certificate (12 Aug 1858 - 3 Aug 1940) is also viewable online. He died in Carthage and was buried in Miller Cemetery. Father identified as John LATHAM and mother identified as surname HUFF. First, positive, identification is on 1870 Panola-Beat 1-Image 37. Thomas HUFF(65), Nancy(45), James(15), Elener(11), Marshall(13), and Hilman LATHAM(12). In 1860 Panola-Beat 14-Image 3, find John W. WILKISON(35), Nancy(34), John(13), James(11), George(7), Judge(5), and Alonzo(3). Quiz! Were Nancy WILKISON and Nancy HUFF the same person? In either case, the family of Amaziah Hilman LATHAM and Nancy Jean (THOMAS) LATHAM were in Panola County 1880 - 1930.
