Hello!
I'm hoping someone here can help me with this. My folks are from the Shelby/Panola/Harrison Co area and I'm researching the paternal "branch" of my family tree. Of course the name is very common: HARRIS -- so I figured it wouldn't be a breeze to find info on it. I've found my paternal grandfather's father and mother and then *POOF!* the trail goes cold. Here's all I know...
My (Harris) line:
Father: Cleon B Harris, Sr (b. 1940)
Grandfather: Chester Harris (b. 1911)
G-Grandfather: Willie B. Harris* [William Berchard Harris] (b. 1873)
* Little background: Willie B died in an automobile accident outside of Scottsville, TX en route to Joaquin to visit in-laws for July 4th holiday -- lingered for a month in Marshall sanatarium then died Aug 1926. His wife, Ida HOOPER Harris [daughter of Commodore Perry Hooper] remarried by mid 1930's with the name Herrington and moved to Brownsville, TX w/some of her 8 children.
My grandmother (wife of Chester Harris) is still alive (in her late 80's now) but has no recollection of Willie B. as he was alread deceased by the time she and my g-father married (my g-father was only 15 when his father was killed). So, she can't help me a lot with names on that side of the family and there is no family bible with the Harris history in it.
I did find the following inquiry from another board, it said (cutting and pasting [misspellings and all]):

Searching for ? HARRIS who married ? PERMENTER. Their son Willie Burchard HARRIS b. 1873 md. Julia Ida HOOPER b.1878, dau of Comador Perry HOOPER and Mary SINGLETON. Was told they lived in Joaquin, Shelby Co., TX. Any information will be most appreciated.

So that's a new name I have to fiddle with -- Permenter. However I know (from census records) that Willie B's father and mother are listed as having been born in ALABAMA -- however, I have no clue where they hail from.
The children of William Berchard Harris and Julia Ida Hooper were:
Dora Rudolph (b. 1896)
Dovie (b. 1898)
Marvin (b. 1902)
Starlin(g) (b. 1906)
C.P. (b. 1908)
Chester (b. 1911) my g-father/twin of Ester
Ester (b. 1911) twin of Chester
H.E. (b. ~1915?) think his name is Hessum
but family always called him H.E.)
If anyone has ANY info on this family, please (begging) let me hear from you. This is my "family" name and I can't get very far at all. I've had no trouble with the Hooper side (Ida's family) it's just the Harris' that I'm hitting lots of brick walls.
