I'm still trying to trace my Great Grandfather, one John W. Newcon/Newcum/Newcom/Newcomb, born about 1833 in Kansas or Missouri. He first shows up in Palo Pinto County, Texas when he joined the Civil War.

His Father was born in New York State, and his Mother was born in either Canada, or New York State.

He had 2 brothers: Sam & *Alec*; one sister: Minnie, who married a Johnson (Johnston?). His Mother was *Cherokee*, & his Father *was thought to be a Frenchman*.

I grew up at Ft. Griffin,Tx. (Shackelford County. I know a little of the history, & some names are familiar to me, so if you're looking for someone in my area, feel free to email me.

Thanks,
Martha
