ALVAREZ,ALMOND-----early dairy farms

Am looking for info pertaining to these two surnames, Emmanuel/Manuel Alvarez operated a dairy farm I believe to have first been in Bridge City.
Manuel's son recalled riding a ferry to school in either Jefferson or Orange county can anyone elaborate? The era would be ca 1930. I found Manuel to be living in Port Neches in the census but I beleive that to be a boundry change. Can anyone tell me where to locate maps of early Orange and Jefferson county boundries?
Thanks,
Kasey
