States: Texas: Orange
I am looking for the graves of William R. Ratcliff, Sr., and his wife Abigail (Rice) Ratcliff. William died in Orange County, Texas, in 1878. He was living with his son Ed Ratcliff (E. B. Ratcliff) at the time. He was supposed to have been buried "under the fig tree" originally but later information indicates that his grave was subsequently moved -- but to where? His wife, Abigail, died in 1881, perhaps in Orange County (Texas) or perhaps in Jefferson County (Beaumont, Texas). On the 1880 Orange County U.S. Census (listed as Abigail Ratliff) she was living with the Marion? Stephenson family. The wife of this Marion? Stephenson may be Abigail's daughter. On the 1870 Orange County U.S. Census both William and Abigail were living with Ed Ratcliff (listed as Ratliff on the census report). Any information as to where William Sr. and Abigail are buried would be greatly appreciated. (They are my 3rd great-grandparents).
Also, William Ratcliff, Sr.'s father, James Ratcliff, died in Yazoo County, Mississippi in 1836. His gravesite also remains a mystery. Any information on the site of James' burial would also be appreciated. (William Sr. and his family moved to Texas about 1839.)
And while I am at it, the gravesites of James Ratcliff's first two wives are also a mystery. He was living in Amite County, Mississippi, from about 1804 until about 1830, having come from Tennessee before that. He married his second wife, Ada Davis, in 1812 in Amite County, Mississippi. His last child by his first wife was about 1809. It is assumed that she died. The last child by Ada Davis was about 1824. It is also assumed that she died, probably before he moved to Yazoo County, but it is not certain. He married his third wife, Nancy O'Neal around 1831, no children from that union.
