The W. H. Ford Male and Female College, aka Powell Hotel, has been restored and is owned by the Newton County Historical Commission. It is available for tour by appointment. (409) 379-2109
I have the Historical Marker that is on the building online at http://txnetwork.net/hmarkers/ and the email address for the NCHC is newton@jas.net.
The NCHC also have census and cemetery books on Newton County for sale. Their website is http://jas.net/~newton
You really should make a trip to Newton and check out all the wonderful resources in our Museum and Genealogy Library.
