Several times I have run across researchers who have referenced a Thomas BIVENS, susposedly listed in the 1860 LA Census, as being the father of James BIVENS who father Henry BIVENS of Newton CO, Texas. James BIVENS died in St. Tammany Parish, LA abt 1814, was md. to Elizabeth, and fathered Wiley, Henry, James, Polly, and Winney BIVENS. Henry Bivens raised a large family in Newton Co., TX.
Please, I invite you to take a look at the original census records (See LA 1860Census>Calcasieu Parish, LA> Sugartown Post Officw>HHs #448 and #449). The Census record clearly reads Thomas "BURNS", SR.,living in HH 449 not BIVENS and a younger Thomas "BURNS" not BIVENS occupies HH #448-468.
It very well maybe that a Thomas is the father of James Bivens but this resource for documentation does not refer to a BIVENS and adds no credence to the support the claim.
Thanks, Kitty Biven Hoffman
