parents of Alford Newton York

I am still hitting a brick wall. I can't find any information on the parents of my great grandfather, Alford Newton York. I have all the information fron 1900 to present on my direct line but unable but nothing before Alford. It does not help that I don't know who his siblings were. Perhaps there were 2 sets of children. That happened sometimes. He was a civil war confed soldier, leatherer/blacksmith. He played musical instruments such as fiddle, french harp. He taught his son, Alford, My dad learned from Alford. Alford's death certificate shows his father as J F York, and Mother Mary Wilson. That much I have
