Cherino/Chireno Academy
Posted by: Lisa Franklin (ID *****4622) Date: June 19, 2012 at 08:48:42

I am looking for information on a school. I have an old 1854 newspaper clipping from the Nacogdoches Chronicle which mentions a new teacher at the Cherino Academy. I'm pretty sure this is a mispelling of Chireno as Chireno, TX lies inside Nacogdoches county. Can anyone tell me anything about this school/academy and where any old records might be found?
I believe the name of the teacher also contains a typo and I believe the teacher was my ancestor who I have documented as living all over East Texas from San Augustine,TX, Henderson, TX and as far north as Hopkins and Red River counties from 1853 onward.
Thanks!
