Sorry. With all the dadgum John's in these Grimes families, it was easier for me to find him by listing him as brother of....
I DO NOT know where this family ties in. The first census shows Illinois??? Cherino is on the opposite end of the county, as far as you can get, away from all other Grimes'. And I don't have ANYTHING tying them with my Grimes'??

Grimes, John C. - b. 18 March 1833 Illinois (Kentucky?), died between October 1990 to February 1901, buried Rocky Mount Cemetery, married 1st Mary E. Spinks 16 July 1857 daughter of Rolley & Nancy Spinks, 2nd Mrs. S. J. McDowell 6 August 1883. 1857 Tax List, C.S.A. enlisted July 1864, served to end of War, Co. B., Martin's Regt. - right leg disabled, Confederate Pension #04860. Children: William B., b. ca 1859 Texas, Harriet A., b. March 1864, George Jefferson, b. 26 September 1865, John Newton, b. 30 october 1867, Mary M., b. ca 1869, James W., b. 20 August 1872, Venson Lafayette, b. 2 April 1876.
