Veterans Memorial granite marker

A Veterans Memorial marker is going to be dedicated November 11th of this year in Montague on the Courthouse Square. The black granite marker will be 30 ft x 8 ft x 14 inches thick and will cost $63,000. It will have room for over 4,800 names of veterans from all periods of time from Texas Rev, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish American, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Veteran did not have to serve in combat to be included on this granite marker. They just have to have a connection to Montague County and pay fee of $50 to have their name inscribed. To be included when the marker is unveiled the names and fee need to be received by June 1st, 2013.
