1911-1920: Edward Johnson and/or Maggie Bales Johnson

I'm trying to find information about a couple who may have lived in Montague County between 1910 and 1920. The 1920 census shows Maggie Johnson, a widow, living with her daughter and a son in the "Saint Jo City" area.

Maggie married Edward Johnson in about 1909 or 1910. They are listed on the 1910 census as having been married for 1 year. They had a child, Ethel, in 1911.

However, by 1920 Edward is no longer living with Maggie. She's listed as a widow -- it was common in that day and age to say you were a widow even if they had divorced or he had just up and left -- plus she was a widow from her first marriage.

I've not been able to find anything more on this family. Did he die in Montague County? Did they divorce?

If you can shed light on what happened to Edward Johnson, I'd be most grateful.
