There is a William Butler who was born in South Carolina in 1825. He moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, as a single man prior to July 1, 1845. He served in the Civil War where he was wounded and returned home blind. William married Rebecca Fortenbery, who had been born in Mississippi in 1834. The had ten children. The youngest was Joseph Butler b. July 3, 1873. This is the only child's name that is in the article. The family moved to Milam County in 1874.
