My ancestor is James Harris b.1819 in Kentucky, married to Martha Harris in Cooper Co. Missouri, 4 Sep 1839. I have found a household in the 1840 Cooper Co. Missouri Census of a John Harris that would fit- if they were living with his parents after the marriage. They came to Texas between 1848 and 1850 and are listed in the 1860 and 1870 Census - Milam Co., Cameron Township. They had ten children including a John Christian Harris b.April 1846 and a James Harris b. 1855. Could he possibly be a brother or cousin to your John H. Harris? The time frame fits and the recurring names - John and James - also is interesting.
