I have a little more information about James L. Stewart. In 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900 he was living in Milam County, TX. He was a laborer in 1860 and was living with his brother Joseph, and was listed as a farmer the other years. He served in the Civil War as a 2nd Corporal in Co. G, 5th Texas Regt., under Capt. J. C. Rogers. He was living with William Nabours (my ancestor, son of James' aunt Mary Etta Stewart)in 1870.

James' father was John Stewart, born in VA. John lived in Pickens County, AL in 1830. He lived in Milam County in 1860, with his son William. I also have information about John's parents and siblings on my web site:

James L. Stewart's children (from the 1860-1900 census records) were
Minnie b. 1872 TX
Eva b. 10/1873 TX
Almeda b. 1875 TX
James E. b. 9/1877 TX, m. Sallie White in 1894
Leonard L. b. 5/1880 TX
Allerray (?) b. 8/1883 TX
Vivian b. 9/1885 TX
Albert Dewitt b. 5/1890 TX
