Have you tried the 1870 federal census for Texas? Once you define the family, you can follow them through the census records. You also can check 1860 census, prior to birth of Columbus, because you will then have the names of his family. Have you checked the Waller Co, TX GenWeb site? Some GenWeb counties are putting their cemeteries online, and some have put other vital record info online, too. I wouldn't think Dennard was very common, check for anybody with that name buried there, too. Be sure to post your query on that site.
