Go to the Handbook of TX, type in Saline Salt Works. Several entries come up. I suggest you click on them and see what you can learn. The TX State Archives might have info on who was in charge of the Salt Works during the Civil War. In those days salt was very, very important. No refrigeraton, many foods had to be salted down to preserve, besides its military use, too. Click on the following-- http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.html
