If they were not on the 1880 Soundex in TX, they might have been in another state. Where did they come from before TX? Most of the 1890 federal census was destroyed, you might have looked at the Special Census of Veterans and Veterans' Widows. That was not supposed to include Confederate Veterans, but in a few cases they were counted.
