I guess I was not clear. James Curtis Cady claimed to have served in the Texas Rangers. I am well aware the Texas Rangers only came into existence in 1879 and he was married in 1869 and with children by them. So why the claim???

Well, the Texas Ranger name existed before the Texas revolution as Volunteer Militia or Posse. Their term was short and the 1st Texas Mounter Rifles fit the destination of a pre=war Ranger. The 4th Texas Calvary in the Civil War were known as Texas Rangers. So what came first the chicken or the egg,
James was injured chasing rustlers thru the mesquite and suffered the rest of his life. So he was a Ranger before there were Lawmen called Rangers, I hope the Museum will honor these men who made the name, along with those who made its meaning.
