Wayne: This may help somehow. My husbands family was
Scottish, there was a lot of the Archibald Johnston/Johnson
name handed down from way back. Some came into Canada, NJ,
NY, his Archibald Gilbert Johnston was born in 1740 Rookland Co., NY, 7 children. He married a Jane Smith b-1755.The line from Archibald was to Abraham Johnston, that
married Sarah Ayers and had 9 children. They died in Monroe Co., OH.

Abraham and Sarah had a dau., Jane Johnston married an Abraham Ward and ended up in Ohio. The Johnston name did depend on how they ended up spelling it, a lot used Johnson. You may want to try that name. Archibald d-bef. 11-11-1827, and never moved from Hempstead, Ramapo Co. NY.
