Charles Bonnard (Charlie Bonnard) - Blanco County Area
I am hoping someone out there may have additional information on a Charles or "Charley" Bonnard. I have very limited information on him. He would be my 3rd-Great Grandfather. The information I have on him is as follows.
He had at least one child, maybe two children, with Verlydia "Lydia", my 3rd-great grandmother. Research has indicated her maiden name was either Smith or Brown.
The one child we know of is Ida Leta Belle (Bonnard) Daniel, my 2nd-great grandmother, born December 28, 1873 in Blanco County, Texas. The second child is Charley Bonnard, born about 1876. I find him in the 1880 census as Charles Felps. Verlydia married her second husband, Britton Felps, November 15, 1877. I assume the young Charles is Charlie Bonnard's, not Britton's. I haven't found him after that.
There is another child listed on the 1880 Census named Bonard T Felps, a daughter, born 1879. This is two young to be Ida, and I have not found any other indication that Verlydia and Britton's only (known) child together, Mary, had a sister, much less twin. I find it interesting the name Bonard, though misspelled, appears here as a child's name.
I am also not definitive if Charles Bonnard and Verlydia were ever married, but there is a marriage record for a Verlydia Smith and Charles Bonet in Bexar County in 1873. It seems a likely match and the name difference may be the result of a typo or something.
There is a grave in Medina County, Texas - coincidentally half way between Bexar and Blanco Counties, approximately - for a Charles Bonnard, b April 28, 1855 d. May 26, 1876. Verlydia was born August 1855, making them about the same age, and his death is a year before she marries Britton Phelps. I have nothing but coincidence to tie this Charles Bonnard to my Charles Bonnard.
"Charlie Bonnard" is listed as the Father's name on Ida Daniel's death record, and the death records I have for her children all state "Bonnard" as her maiden name. While Bonner/Boner is a common name in Blanco county, I've found, every reference I have found (except that marriage record) specifically says "Bonnard," not Bonner/Boner.
