I noticed the father of your "Texas" Cowboy J. P. Smith is a Geo. Payne Smith.

There is a George P. Smith, Farmer/Planter b. Ky, with wife M. L. b. VA, in the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census of Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas. In the 1860 census their oldest child is 15, a female.

But his worth in 1860 is listed $7,000/25,770 and George P. is 41, which means he could have other children, perhaps your Jordan P. signed up with a trail drive as that was the heart of the Texas round-ups.

You might check out 1850 Missouri census as well. Good luck.
