Penelope, various people on Rootsweb's WorldConnect site have John Burl's father as John (born 1756, died Nov 1836 Franklin Co., VA) and his mother as Mary, maiden name unknown.
However, if you will Google "John Harger, Franklin Co., VA", you will find copies of his will in which there is a John Burwell Harger mentioned, but folks seem to think he is not John Burl.
There is a John "Hargar" in Franklin Co., VA in the 1810 census, with the following people in the house:
Males:1 - age under 10, 1 - age 16-25, and 1 - age over 44
Females: 2 - age 10-15, 2 - age 16-25
Regarding the females, it appears either John has married a younger woman as a second wife, or his wife is deceased.
