EH Silliman was a complicated man. He abandoned my GGreat Grandmother (left her to raise 4 children in MI) and in the course of 30 years divorced her, then returned, they remarried and then left again. He was a very successful businessman... made a fortune in the lumber biz... was a talented golfer even designed golf courses. Alas... he was also prone to drinking and maybe that contributed to his vagabond ways later in his life. Why he ended up in Brownsville is the big mystery. I know of some Silliman families in Arkansas... but why Brownsville? After I get a chance to study the 1940 census, perhaps I will get some more clues. I have tried to connect with the Public Library in Brownsville... they have a lousy website and my message got bounced back. I too looked at his DC, and perhaps my Great Uncle "Buck" (EH Silliman Jr, Jamestown NY) was the connection to sending his father back to Ohio.
Sedate Moore Silliman, my GGrandmother lived with two of her three daughters (Madison, WI Jamestown, NY) and for a time with her sister in Cleveland. She was living in Madison at the time of her death.
Well... again I thank you for reading and responding to my post! Your ideas are good ones and I'll followup!
