Joseph & Sarah listed in Census records It appears that Sarah dies sometime after 1861, possibly in childbirth with son Joseph R. b. abt. 1861 in Louisiana shortly thereafter Joseph 1861 Marriage to Mary Johnson Aten (widow of John Aten) Joseph's son William marries Mary Aten's daughter Sophie Aten 1864 Abt. married Elizabeth GIBSON in Louisiana and had two more children, Jesse R. b. 1865 & Elizabeth Ratliff b. abt. 1868 (this is where Jim, my husband comes in, he descends through their child Jesse Robert Ratliff b. 1865 in Louisiana) 1870 Census DeSoto Parish, Louisiana shows birth Tennessee? This Census shows Joseph & wife Elizabeth Gibson in DeSoto Parish Louisiana wit James, Greenberry, George, Martha & Joseph R. Jr. (children from wife Sarah) and their own two children Jesse R. & Elizabeth Ratliff. As our oral history goes, Josephe and his older sons wanted to remove to Texas. Wife Elizabeth was afraid of the Indians and did not wish to go, and supposedly hid out in the Piney Woods. Joseph and his children from Sarah Barrentine did go to Texas. 1870 Removed to Somewhere in Texas ?? There We find William and Sophie Aten living in Blanco County, Texas along with Joseph Tyler, son in law of Joseph Ratliff, but no Joseph 1876 Fugitive from Justice in Blanco County, Texas - Joseph Ratliff, Father; along with sons William and James (believed to be ours) 1876 Marriage of Joseph Ratliff age 58 to a Nancy Owens age 18 in Sevier County, Arkansas Not sure which came first the marriage or the Fugitive 1880 Census Polk County, Arkansas - is a Joseph Ratliff age 71 born Tennessee, wife (Josephy , scratched out and Nancy written over it. age 57 ) son Joseph age 18 b. Louisiana and Frank Brown, boarder age 9?? That just about sums it up for our Joseph, I do believe that there is a connection to the Stones and Ratliffs and that this Joseph may very well be the son of Joseph Ratliff and Keziah French Stone. Somewhere in my notes there is something about a Stone removing to Texas at the same time as our Joseph ????? Anything you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. We do have much more on these children of Joseph. Sometimes the slightest clue will lead to a connection. Can you tell me what the source for you Joseph's (son of Joseph & Keziah ) Birth and death are??? I have seen trees that report that this Joseph died early, with no children, but no records to indicate anything. Anxiously awaiting your reply.
