I'm looking for help with news of Henry C. Wright, the nephew of my GGGgrandfather, Benjamin Wright. Benjamin stayed in England when his brother and nephew moved to the States.
Henry fought in the Civil War in cavalry divisions under Gen. Sibley and Gen. Thomas Green, and the last news we have of him was when he wrote home from Huntsville TX in 1866 to tell his uncle news of the War and of the death of his own father (name unknown).
Henry had a brother John who was 17 in 1866 so born around 1849
Henry was a staunch Methodist and friend of John Thomas Poe, 1836-1917, who married Henry's sister Caroline. Poe worked as awatchmaker in Huntsville an dwas also a preacher, and I've been able to find his biography on-line, in which it states that he is buried with his wife Carrie.
We gather from Henry's letter that he had at least two other sisters - Lizzie (? Elizabeth), whose husband was killed at the Battle of Chichamanga, and Mary Jane, who lived together in Galveston after the war.
John and Caroline Poe had had a little girl by 1866, called Ella, and Henry's mother (name also unknown) was living with them at the time Henry wrote.
Any further clues to this family would be most welcome.
I would be happy to reciprocate with searches in the UK if that would help facilitate matters.
