Hello Jerry (and the kind Liz),
Jerry, according to the info provided by Liz, your Grandfather had a sister named Pearl M, as Liz provided on the 1900 census of James W. Woody's household and named as Minnie P. on Liz's 1910 census info for the JW Woody household. Had Pearl M Woody lived longer, she would have been your Great Aunt.
I am looking for a link between your Great Grandfather, James W. Woody, and my Grandfather, Jasper Newton Woody (b.1880 d.1964) Bell Co., Tx.
The reason is, somehow, Pearl came to live with my Grandfather between the 1910 census and her death in 1913. If this is the correct Pearl M Woody, I know where she is buried. In Val Verde Cemetery in Bell Co, Tx. I found a list of gravesites for that Cemetery that an individual independantly documented and posted on the Internet. My Father told me she was buried there so I narrowed my search to just that place and it was just where he said it was.
One problem is, the typed cemetery list says her gravestone has Pearl M Woody b.1887 d. 1913. I am hoping this is a typo on the birth date since the census says 1897 on two (1900 and 1910). I have found no other Pearl M Woodys anywhere in my research so I feel this has to be the right Pearl.
Why this is important to us is that we have Pearl's belongings. Many love letters written to her by several men, her high top shoes, clothing items and a photo of Pearl, my Grandfather (Jasper Newton) and Jasper Newton's first wife, Martha Jane Norman.
The story that goes with Pearl's demise is that she bled to death on Jasper Newton's kitchen table as a doctor was trying to do emergency surgery on her. We believe she was only 16, not 26 as the independantly typed list of her gravestone indicates.
Anyway, if anyone can find a link between Jasper Newton Woody and your Great Grandfather, James W (Walker?) Woody, it would be very helpful. I can find virtually nothing for Jasper Newton's siblings to connect him to James W. Woody. I feel there had to be a close family connection in order for Pearl to be sent to live with the Jasper Newton Woody family.
My Grandfather, Jasper Newton's parents, were Jacob Levi Woody(b. 1848 TN) and Parilee J. Bradley (b. 1852 d.1887). Jacob Levi may have been your Great Grandfather's brother or possibly his cousin?
We would like to find that link because we have hard evidence Pearl was in my Grandfather's household when she died. Just don't know why, or the connection between Pearl's father (your G-Grandfather) and my Grandfather.
Thanks so much for any help available. Susan Woody Morrow
