Capt Thomas Deney Co B 9th Infantry / Gen Miles & Geronimo

Found this information going through the online "old newspapers" of New York

Syracuse NY Daily Standard 1898-1898 1866pdt
"From Madison Barracks A Squad of Regulars leave for the front

Twenty recruits for the regular army, who are on their way to Fort McPherson Ga. stopped over in this city for a couple of hours last evening. They came here from Madison barracks at Sacket Harbor at 9:35 o'clock and left shortly after midnight. They were in charge of Corp Thomas Deney Company B 9th Infantry. Corp Deney was sick in the Hospital at Madison barracks when his company left for Tampa and he will rejoin the Company as soon as he delievers the detachment of recuits to the commanding officer at Fort McPherson. Corp Deney is a old Indian fighter and has seen 25 yrs service on the western frontier. He was with Gen Miles in the famous search through Southern Texas for Geronimo and his band. He is good for several years service yet and is very anxious to get to the front. (The article continues about the company, so I ended it here)

I can't seem to find Capt Thomas Deney listed on the Company B 9th Infantry. Does anyone have any further info on this man? I believe he may be the missing child that was born to my John Deney of Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co. NY.
