John K McGrew

I am letting all of my McGrew relatives and friends know that there has been some important information concerning the Andrew Megrue family.

About a year ago I had my DNA tested for the McGrew DNA project. the results were very interesting, but to call them actual, we needed a test from a Megrue descendant with impecabble documentation of his relation to Andrew Megrue. We found such a person and the results from his test (available at the web site) verify my results. The facts verified are as follows.

1. Andrew Megrue is of Viking descent in Scotland, and as such is not in any way related to the families of Robert and Isabella McGrew, James A. McGrew , Alexander Macgruar/McGrew or Thomas McGrew. None of these families has the R1A1 haplotype associated with the Vikings. There have been many attempts over the years by folks assembling family trees to try to attach Andrew to the Robert and AIsabella line. This is just not so. We do not know the parents of Andrew Megrue but are continuing our search.

2. Andrew McGrew, b. 1800, Son of Andrew Megrue, b 1760 , had two sons. George W. McGrew b. 1822 has usually been listed as one of these sons. The second son is John K. McGrew (b. abt 1830). He is seldom listed, or listed as John F. McGrew born 1832. John F and his offspring are not the family of Andrew McGrew. John K McGrew became a physician and moved to Texas in the 1850's. On the way he met and married Ann Eliza Gwinn,( Often listed as A.E. McGrew). In Texas, John had two sons James Fitshugh Lee McGrew b. 1852 and John Gwinn McGrew b. abt 1860.
These are now undesputaable facts verified by history books, various censuses, city directories , death documents and now the results of the DNA testing. .
John K. died around 1860. After this time the whole family James F., John G. and Ann E. (A.E. remarried a A. G. Cantley) moved to Mississippi and then to Cincinnati Ohio where they stayed until the 1890's. At that time they all, with the exception of Mr Cantley who passed away, moved to Chicago where
