Andrea --Thanks so much for going out of your way to help!
Yes, that "late" Texas birth and death info is So unfortunate for those of us doing "early"genealogy.

As regards Hilder, his cemetery record said " $10, Navy." We guessed it would not be the Swedish Navy sending $10 to bury him in Kansas City, but "Navy" was hard for us to figure out given the fact that most of his work we have found so far had been in railroads.

We've traced these people from Sweden pretty well, and only have a few gaps, luckily. The Galveston location is a new twist for us. Galveston County Clerk's office told me how to request probate records this afternoon, so we will send for it. [You asked...we do find Hilder in 1880 census, but he's missing in 1900. He moved a lot w/ the railroads.]

As you noted, flooding and what not in Galveston may make finding probate info a moot issue..Oh, well, termites ate a marriage license I needed in what's flooding after that? Nature ravages history. One of God's little jokes. Hah! Hey- thanks again. Jeanne
